2010 Chasing the Sun Trip

Day 12 – Grand Tetons to Yellowstone

Sunset at Yellowstone

This has been the most uneventful day.  The most exciting thing I seen today was a bird of prey grab a fish out of the water, I think it might of been Osprey.

I ended up spending the night at the Colter Bay campsite and woke early to get to the Jenny Lake Overlook to photograph sunrise on the Tetons.  One thing that was cool was I met Brian from Kingston, Tennessee and his wife.  He showed me photographs he had taken in Yellowstone.  He had a lot of amazing photographs.  He gave me a lot of good wildlife locations in Yellowstone.  He got my information and I may end up going to visit the Kingston Camera Club sometime.  I would really like to go out shooting with him some time, I think I could learn a lot from him.

I headed on up to Yellowstone.  I stopped to take a few pictures but not a lot.  The trip was wearing on me a bit now.  I have been getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night and a lot of that is in the car.  I ended up at Old Faithful because it’s something everyone should see once or so I had been told.  I pulled into a shady area typed up the previous days blog and ended up falling asleep for about 4 hours.  I did see Old Faithful and video recorded it.  I left there and went to Fishermen’s Bridge where I got some very long distance elk shots.  It was nearly dark so I decided to go to Canyon Campgrounds.  When I got there the campgrounds were closed and there was no room at the inn, and it is against NPS policy to sleep in your car at pull offs, picnic sites, or parking lots.  So I headed to Gardiner, Montana.  I will miss the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and the lower falls.  I think I would need more time to explore yellowstone in depth anyway.  Maybe a trip sometime in the future…
